I do not have a "to do list"of quilts.
I work fulltime, so I use quilting as a creativity release. I can remember hand sewing Barbie clothes as young as 7 or 8. I am not and never will be a seamstress, but I have always needed to make "something". Many, many crafts later, I choose quilting as my outlet. I make quilts that make me happy and feel good. If I "make" myself start a quilt, it does not get finished for a long time. If a new pattern or fabric makes me feel good, then the quilt will be finished quickly.
I prefer a 2009 Finished Project List and a Book of pictures, fabric swatches and information on each finished quilt. Quilters give away a lot of their quilts and at the end of the year, we feel like we did not accomplish anything. I think that Books of Finished Quilts could bring many years of smiles to us and others.

Of course I want to make every quilt I see, but the only list I truly have is a list of family members and friends that I would like to gift a quilt to. My priorities change with the wind according to who is having a baby or getting married. Of course there are charity quilts for my quild too. I am making a vow to squeeze in at least 1 quilt for myself by the end of the year! My must do's include Log Cabin, Storm At Sea and New York Beauty.

Last year my husband asked, Do we know anyone who is having a baby? I thought for a moment and said not that I know of why are you asking? His reply, I want a warmer quilt for my truck ( he is a truck driver) and I don't want to get bumped. I laughed but he was serious. I have several quilts in progress but we are both from big families and someone is always having a baby and the quilts on my list always are pushed to the back and the new baby quilt gets bumped to the front. I did get his quilt finished before winter. One year I actually wrote a list of what I had in process. My guild did a finish 5 this year. We had to list 5 quilts we had started already, list where we were on each quilt and have them done and show them at a show and tell meeting before December. I made a list of each quilt I had in process and wrote at the side when I wanted it finished so that I could finish the 5 by our December meeting. It really helped to have the date to the side I knew when I need to have that quilt done. It keep me on task.

:lol: I am way too intimidated to make a written list, considering all the WIP's, UFO's and stacks of fabrics in waiting. :oops: All the new ideas and patterns, not to mention fabric, just multiply too fast! I can't stay ahead and have decided that I'm just not supposed to. :roll: What fun would that be? :D

I keep a list of only my next half-dozen projects. That way it's small enough to keep needs in mind when I go shopping and I don't feel overwhelmed. Of course a new pregnancy or engagement may change the list, but only slightly.

I have one piece of advice... if youa re doing quilts for 6 children do them in some sort of order... youngest to oldest or vice versa. I am the middle child an I cannot tell you how many times I was skipped over when my Mom did something! Crocheted tablecloths, quillows, duvet covers... all went to younger and older. Not me.

I keep count now... if I've done a quilt for DD the next goes to DS. And even though he's a lighthouse keeper living on an island by himself, I don't necessarily GIVE him the quilt but he knows that when he's ready for them in his life he has quilts here to come and get.

I thought everybody had a list!!!LOL Of course I keep revising it :mrgreen: , and I've got patterns of quilts I want to do--in binders, on my computer, in magazines----help!! I'm running out of room--lol. And the list goes on--------

Oh dear, Ginnie. You sound like the rest of us. My folder of patterns and pictures has now evolved into several 3-ring binders. It makes me nervous just looking at the covers. There's no way I can do it all in this lifetime. All I can do is enjoy what I'm working on at the time...and hope I live long enough to make SOME of them.
