I take a few stitches in my mitered corners as well and do it as I'm going along.

I do the same as Tartan but usually only miter the backs and I tie a knot about every 6 inches.

I machine sew on the front with mitered corners and hand stitch on the back with mitered corners.

Default Miters

Yes sew both front and back. While it is true that you do not have to do this unless you are putting the quilt in a show, the purpose is to hold the shape of the miter and for the longevity of the quilt,

My ? is: Are you suppose to sew the miters on the front of the quilt also?[/QUOTE]

I do my bindings this way and I don't stitch the mitered corners.

I generally tack down the miters on both sides.

I sew my binding on front, then fold over to back. Then I hand stitch binding on back going back and forth through the mitered corners, so that the mitered corners are stitched down front and back. I do it in such a way it does not show. Hope this makes sense? This method was taught to me by a professional quilt judge who I hosted in my home during our guilds quilt show. I was very happy to get such a great tip.

Exactly how I do it and exactly what I was thinking!
