This is really interesting, to see the dragon fly with the almost opposite backgrounds. Good for you for trying the black! I hadn't thought 2 saturated colors would work like that, but it's given me ideas about possibly putting other colors together, and thus "breaking the rules". Please don't tell the Quilt Police about this! LOL!

I was going to try in on a green leaf color. I like both of the ones you have made. It is just when I see them outside they are on something green.

I have made butterflys and dragonflys with a folded small sq for the head then there are no seams in the corner sq.
fold a sq in half then in half again and place in the corner. If you want the head to be 1" use a 2" sq. folded 2x. for a 1/2" head use a 1" sq
