Do you have the circles made? If not I use a round template, baste around it, then take them out of the template, press and applique.
    Hope this helps!
Or if this isn't it can you post a pic??

I know how to do a nice circle using fusible interfacing. If you are still having problems, PM me and I will give you step by step instructions.

This is for a Dresden plate that has 4-1/2" long wedge cuts.

For each plate's 4-1/2" circle, you need (1) 5-1/2" square fabric and (1) 5-1/2" square non-woven fusible interfacing.

    1. Trace your circle onto smooth side of fusible interfacing square.

    2. Place bumpy, fusible side of interfacing on right side of fabric square.

    3. Sew on the line with 18 stitches per inch (or 1.8 on computerized machine). Overlap beginning and ending stitches.

    4. Trim 1/8" away from stitching.

    5. Cut small slit in center of interfacing (for turning right side out).

    6. Turn right side out (using a drinking straw and a ball point bodkin).

    7. Press outside edges with iron & non-stick pressing cloth OR a wooden "iron".

At this point, the instructions involve the background square and the dresdren plate wedges (which have been sewn together). Press background square in half and half again into quarters. Carefully center dresden plate on background square lining up seams with folds.

    8. Center circle on plate.

    9. Press in place with steam. (The fusable interfacing will be facing down, so you need to follow fusible interfacing pressing instructions.)

Now your fused circle is attached both to the wedges and the background, so you pin each wedge and sew around wedges and then the circle:

By Machine: Place invisible thread on top and loosen top tension. Place thread matching background in bobbin. Sew around circle and wedges with blind hem stitch.

By Hand: Sew around circle and wedges with hidden applique stitch.

Here is a link for a tutorial on the Dresden plate. It shows an easy way to do the center circle.
