Dresden Plate dilema

I am making a dresden plate quilt for my very best friend's 25th wedding anniversary out of orientals. The attached picture is how I want to set it, but, I made 25 dresden plates, one for each year. Her bed is a large kingsize and is very high off the floor. So, my question is: with 25 12" sq blocks would you set them on point or row by row? I'm hoping someone on here could do a quick EQ for me or is better at the mathematical aspect than me!

I am a complete loser at this aspect of quilting (I actually make blocks and lay them on the bed!). I just wanted to say this is a beautiful design, and I really will try and focus on the mathematics of the process, so I can do things "properly". Great question, and I am sure this will help a lot of us.

You think your math is off. I was trying my hand at Dresden plate. Got one HUGE Dresden plate with about a 4-5 in center. Well I'll figure out how to use that in a charity quilt. So I thought I try and make some much smaller ones to go with it. No way. I ended up with another HUGE circle, 4" dresden sections and a HUGE hole in the center. No EQ here, I'll have to do Search or Google for some help.

Oops, what was I thinking. And yes, I like them on point also.
No 5 x 5 :) Or ... stagger a row of 3 then a row of 2.

A reg. king is 76x80 and a cal. king is 72x84. The big question is what is the depth of the mattress. If the mattress is say 15" thick then add 30" to 76" then 2-3" for each side it to go below the top mattress.
So 76+30+4= 110 wide
Now Do you want the quilt to go over just the top of the pillows or tuck in? I probably would do 80" + 15" + 2" = 97" for under pillows. I probably would add 6" to that # if to go over the pillows and if tucked I would add the additional 15".
So tucked would be 80+15+2+15= 112
110x112
this comes out to 110x110

Thanks for the picture of your wonderful quilt. It truly is beautiful. I have just chosen the fabric for my very first dresden to go in my very first sampler quilt. I love the sashing. Thanks also, Denise, for working out the math. I also have a kingsize bed and would love to make a dresden quilt for myself. But certainly not up to the math part yet.
