Since you are using a tone on tone, I'd go with a pretty patterned background, maybe a floral or paisley.

I think a cream/tan fabric might work. Dark enough tan that the white will stand out against it.

I think this would look very striking on a dark background - maybe a dark grey or black-on-grey; alternately, a dark, dark red would make it "pop" too.
