I've owned a Baby Lock Sofia 2 for almost a year and while I never thought I wanted or needed an embroidery machine, I now use it almost every day. It recently froze up on me and I brought it in for servicing. And, of course, started looking around at other machines so I could potentially run two at once and sell some items on Etsy and my website and still use one for quilting motifs. The two in question now are either the Baby Lock Elure or the Bernina Bernette 320, which is an embroidery only machine. Any thoughts?

I started out with a Babylock Ellure plus, it is a great little machine. I did end up trading her in for the Babylock Symphony. I have always owned Babylock.

I personally would go with the Baby lock, Viking or Brother. The software I have will not convert and of the Bernia (ART) designs to Hus or Pes. But I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

I have had Pfaff machines for over 35 years and think that they are the best. Started with a 7570, still have it and use it for piecing, bought a serger, then coverlock, then 2134, and now have a CV and love it!!!! I'm sure that everyone on this site will agree that it is not just the machine but the service and support that goes with the machine that is most important. There is so much to learn with the newer computized machines, it is a never ending process and so much fun. And to think that some of us learned to sew on a treadle machine. We have come a long way!!!

I have a Brother that I just love. Never been in the shop except for her annual "d & c". (Dusting and cleaning)

Having two machines is a great idea. I feel so productive when I'm sewing on one and embroidering on the other. Unless you create your own designs, make sure that the site you purchase your designs from allow you to stitch them out and sell them. Some designers have really restrictive rules.

I know nothing about the Babyloc however with the Bernina I do know that the language is isloative, that is to say that when I try and download ART language as in from the Bernina site my computer will freeze. I am in the Viking camp and have software that is able to translate any language; bottom line I think considering a dealer is most - most important. For classes, service and support..........for classes one should ask if it is 1:1 not just a sale person who has to leave the session to answer the phone or sell a spool of thread. If it is from Fabric Fair that you are look at for my Bernina 230 I found the lady most helpfull........................JMO...........call a

Well, the deed is done. I bought a Brother PE770. Not my dream machine, but in this economy at least the price didn't make me wince. I should have it in a couple of days and will let you know how much I love it!
