I am working on a Harry potter quilt for my dd.I want to embroider the title of the books on the quilt . I was told to use a lightweight iron on stabilizer. I don't have any but I do have a lightweight fusible interfacing. My question is ...what is the difference between the two. Can I replace one with the other. Thanks in advance

I have used both, The interfacing I used was a feather weight fusible, and I liked it better.

I don't have any input on this as I just started with an embroidery machine but I do hope you will share the pictures of your Harry Potter quilt with us. I had the same idea and don't really know where to start. Good luck.

I've used both and had no problem. You might want to check on a small scrap to make sure the results are what you're looking for.

I used the light weight fusible on the quilt I just finished. It looks great as long as it is a light design.
Someone on the board had suggested 50/50 batting as a stabilizer and that is my new favorite for heavier designs. It makes them a little raised.

Isnt a fusible the same as an iron on?

I just finished a quilt that every block was embroidered and I used a tear away. I didnt want any bulk left in the block.

Thanks everyone for your help. I am using the interfacing I have on hand and I think it will work out fine.

Even though interfacing seems to be working well during the actual embroidery process, the real results will show up after washing. Embroidery need a heavier stabilizer to keep the stitching supported otherwise they "cave in" after washing. Therefore the advice for an actual stabilizer is recommended. perhaps an interfacing would still be acceptable if a layer or 2 of a llte tear away is floated under the hoop. no need to hoop a floater.

No matter which way you go I'd put a piece of WSS on top of the fabric so that it'll hold the thread of the titles on top. They have a tendancy to sink down into the fabric and using ther WSS or the topping will help prevent this. So you'd have stabilizer on the top and the bottom of the design.
