Default Enlarging a baby quilt

Made my grandson a baby quilt 4 1/2 years ago and needless to say, it has seen good use. Like every day it goes with him to day care and in the car when he goes somewhere. Now he would like me to make it bigger. Faced with that project (of course you know I will try to do that) does anybody have an easy way to do this? I've thought about removing the binding and do a quilt as you go border addition. But then I'm faced with fabrics that have been washed, etc. Do you think it is worth the effort? It's from Moda Bakeshop - the pinwheels and prairie points one. Can't get it to upload from my computer.

I would think the easiest method to enlarge would be to use prewashed fabrics and do QAYG borders as you suggested. I'm thinking you wouldn't necessarily have to continue the same design as the original quilt.

Wouldn't he like a big boys quilt to take places with him, with his favourite animal toy etc on. This would be far ore satisfying for you. His previous treasure would keep. His bed safe while he was away.

I see this as an opportunity to make a whole new quilt for him.

I would see if his tastes have changed from baby stuff into youth and go with that plan. One of my best friends made this quilt for her grandson because he is into Matchbox or whatever they are called cars.

Yes, he has 2 other quilts that I made him. He was into Buzz Lightyear when he was 3 and even chose the fleece backing for it, but he still uses the small one to sleep under. I also made an I spy quilt for him when he was 1 for a big boy bed. I'll contemplate some more on what to do. Thanks for the advice.

No new quilt can replace a much loved friend! Add some big borders QAYG style using lighter fabrics to kind of match. Remember you own both sides of fabric and maybe the wrong side will match in with the well washed fabrics.

If he is set on the original quilt being enlarged I would do it as you said with the QAYG borders. It is obviously his favorite security blanket. Love in its purest form💙

I did my DGD's by removing the existing binding and doing the quilt as you go borders, she has 3 other quilts I've made her but the first one is still with her because she said it was her baby quilt and she wants it forever, she will be 13 next week!!! Good luck and fix that babies quilt!
