EQ6 - importing own fabric
#1
Is there anyone out there that can help me out? I would love to know how to scan my fabrics into my EQ so I can start designing a quilt using my own fabrics?
Appreciate all help and tips and advice!

I think the consensus here was that scanning did not work as well as taking pictures of your fabric. I think it had something to do with the scale of the designs/prints...

Just scan your fabric and save at 72dpi as a jpg file. Inside of EQ6, go to the fabric library and look for the IMPORT button, click it and Browse for the place where you placed your jpg files and Import them.
I've scanned nearly all of my fabrics, works great!

I just went and reviewed my fabric scans as I couldn't remember how big I made them. Most of mine are three inches square, 72 dpi (screen resolution).
EQ6 does tile fabrics, so if possible I try to capture a repeat in the design. If it is really important, I'll save a much larger piece of fabric to the Library for a project, however if larger pieces of fabrics are used a lot, then the program can start to slow down as it gets too big.
Also, remember to crop off any white areas in your saved scan or they will show up as part of your fabric.

What I use a lot is the thumbnail pictures online of fabrics I purchase. Right click on the picture, Save As... and save it to a folder. I have a "Fabrics" folder and a sub-folder under that for each collection or grouping.
When I have saved all the fabrics I go into EQ6, open up the Fabric Library, Import Fabrics, and select the folder and select all the fabrics (hold down the Shift key, click the first and the last fabric to select them all). Import them.
I found at Connecting threads that they have a Download this fabric collection for Electric Quilt (version 6 & later) link on some of their collections! Like go to Audrey's Kitchen and the red and white EQ symbol is on the left.

What I've been doing since I don't have a scanner is taking pictures. Then crop each to 1270x1270 pixels square then resize that to 200x200 pixels and resolution of 72 dpi. I instructions are on page 139 of the book. After playing around for months with the pics and importing to EQ6, so far this is coming out pretty good. It looks good as a block but as a whole quilt I'm still having trouble...
