I've heard of some people selling their quilts or purses on Etsy.com. Has anyone done this and had much luck? I'm considering it, but would like to hear from people that have done it.

I have been selling backpacks on etsy since july. They are toddler size. I have sold about 12 since july. I also have sold a set of crib bumpers I have made. It's kinda fun. Make sure you use all the tags and all the pictures. They do charge 20 cents to list an item and then a small percentage after the item sells. And then paypal takes their share. So keep that in mind when selecting a price.

When Etsy first began it was a good place to sell because there weren't a lot of people selling the same thing. Now however, I just did a search for handmade handbags and founds 6,833 results.... I gave up on Etsy long ago.

my mom has sold a few higher priced quilts on there. I think it's worth it. It only costs .20 to list an item and then etsy gets like 3% of the sale when it's sold.

Try Upillar.com. They are free and you can send an invoice through Paypal if you don't want to wait for a check in the mail for payment.

Upillar is much smaller than Ebay and a little rudimentary but it works and you can list your item with pictures just like Ebay.

I read a great article on this site in Quilter's Home, when Mark Lipinski was still with them...Alot of fellow crafters/quilters/other media types/ are on this site.....From what the article said, it's all about the marketing, patience, having good quality items for sale, return customers, ect...Good Luck!!

I've sold 4 items on Etsy, but I admit I do not spend a lot of time 'advertising' on there; don't have a blog, don't twitter, no Facebook etc. which is what they encourage sellers to do to drive business to your shop. It IS nice to refer people to my shop to view what I do have for sale. I've sold more outside of Etsy with most items being a special request after they've seen my Etsy shop.

There are a LOT of very successful sellers on Etsy, it can be done and they provide a TON of helpful information for every aspect of your business - give it a try, you never know! Good luck.
