I found a 403A on CL this past week. Went and looked at it yesterday. It came in a cabinet with 4 drawers that folds out to a big table. It also has a tread holder that sits in the back of the cabinet. It needs some work but I got it for 40.00. I've got it apart right now cleaning it. I'm going to take it in for a servicing tomorrow. I learned to sew on a 403a. My grandmother and mother both own one and love them. I'm so excited too add it to my collection. I think I'm driving dh nuts though I h ave 6 machines now.

GREAT machine....we used them in Home Ec classes way back in the 70's. They took a lot of abuse from the students but ran like a charm.

I had one of those! Does it have the drop in cams in the top? Mine did; traded it in way back for a new one. Wish I still had it. My DD has one without the cams that used to belong to my FIL. I may try to get that back from her.

Yes it has the drop in cams at the top. I bet your dd has a 404. They just do a straight stitch. My sister has a 404 that my grandmother gave her. Just like the 403a but no cams.

No, my DDs has zig zag and a few other stitches, I think, just no cams. I got rid of mine because it had gotten so noisy; poor excuse, I know. Wish I had it now, just for posterity. My husband got me mine right after we got married in 1961; made all my maternity clothes on it over the years, and all the kids clothes when they were young.

WoW, you found a great treasure.
    I want a 403 and Featherweight next.

Great bargain, you got lucky because the cabinet is included that's $$$ value for it.

Very nice!!! I got a 301a not long ago, and I am having fun cleaning it and getting to know it. I had to buy some parts for the tension assembly, because the old springs were just dead. Waiting for those to come. The motor runs and the needle goes up and down, and it has the original bobbin holder.

This is exciting for you!!! So glad you got it!!
