I think I want to use a sheet as backing for a quilt. Today at Walmart I looked, didn't have much of a selection. They had just 200 thread count, seems pretty thin to me, on clearence for $15 for a queen. What should I be looking for.

If you are going to be sending it out to be quilted, check with your quilter first - some of them won't allow sheets.

Otherwise - get whatever you like best! :)

Those sheets will work just fine. A lot of quilters on this board have used them including me. The higher the thread count the harder they can be to quilt so the 200 count is fine. Those sheets are a blend but still work. Target has sheets that are 100% cotton. I'm going to try those next.

I do not know a single longarm quilter in my area who will quilt a quilt with sheets as backing, so definitely check if you want to have it quilted.

Just an FYI , Regular quilters cotton is only 160 thread count. In using sheets for backing to not go for the higher thread counts. One of the reasons is the needle size used will leave a hole in the high thread count sheets. A top stitch needle will leave holes ... so if any stitches have to come out and be re-done .. you will be able to tell where the old stitch line was.
I use sheets with under 200 thread count.

I've used sheets from Walmart many times on my old domestic machine & on my Janome 6500. Never had a problem. I buy the cheap ones where you can just get a flat sheet. If it's not large enough, I piece the back. My favorite sheets are from IKEA. They sell flat sheets which are better than Wallmart but you can only get them in the store-not online.. They cost a bit more but to me have a better feel. I don't live close to IKEA, so most of the time if using sheets, it's Wally.
I also get sheets from thrift/goodwill/salvation army for more "selection" in patterns. I bring them home & give them a good washing & off I go. No one knows the difference.
