Fabric in Amish Country?
#21
I was told once by a friend who had an Amish man building her a barn that the Amish have rules against pricing that results in too much profit. They are supposed to price at a level that allows them to live simply but not lavishly. I suspect that is the real reason that prices are lower in Amish stores.

I live about 20 miles from Shipshewana, IN. They have wonderful fabric shops there but the prices are not cheap. It is definitely a tourist attraction and the prices reflect that. But...they have a wonderful selection and so many choices that I can always find a match for my projects. Much like a LQS but larger selection.

Thank-you for your responses and the education on these shops. I have always been intrigued about the selection of goods after hearing so many positive things about the prices and fabrics offered.

i totally agree with bakermom. prices arent cheaper but there are so many shops in one area there is a much wider selection all in one place. if you touch the fabric what is cheaper in price, really is cheaper fabric.
