I think using 5" squares in a 4-patch should make a 9" finished square. One reference I found gives a queen quilt size of 90x108" which would be 10 blocks by 12 blocks without borders. Following Rhonda´s calculations of 28 blocks per yard of background, 10x12=120 blocks total, 120 blocks / 28 blocks per yard = 4.29 yards. Round to 4.5 yards just in case lol. I've only had 1 cup of coffee so hopefully others will check these calculations!
