Amy, do you use the backing boards that are 100 for $10.88?

I've been drawn to the different "boards" that are out there where you wrap the fabric around the board. To me, they're a bit pricey if you consider 100 or more of them at 50 cents or so each. I'd rather use the money to grow my stash.

Anyway, a while back my girlfriend gave me some 22x28 chipboard that she had. It worked out great. Yesterday, I placed an order to www.dickblick.com for the chipboard. I ordered 25 sheets and with standard shipping of $7.99 my order vame to $22.79. Do the math. I will get 8 6x11 boards from each sheet which figures out to be 91 cents a sheet and 8 boards a sheet, I will get 200 boards at 11 cents each. I'd attach a photo, but I don't know how to get it off my Blackberry!!
Just make sure anything you use to wrap your fabrics around is acid free and dye free. I just use the ruler fold method which doesn't add any extra bulk and then I can save that money for more fabric.
That is what I do and I love the results. Doesn't cost me a cent!!!

As you can see this is a work in progress and have only been working on this a few weeks in my spare time, but I'll get there.
PS... My DH cuts them on his band saw for me so each one is "perfect"!
O.M.G...............that is so very well done......keep in mind dust and possible light damage

Here is mine using the ruler fold method behind bi-fold doors. The FQs are stored in metal file cabinets.

If your wanting something to wrap your fabric on...I just go to JoAnn's and ask for the leftover cardboard that the bolts came on. And they are free.

Free but not acid free, so they can be costly to your stash.

I had a friend that had her fabrics all displayed so lovely it was almost as though you were in the LQS. I admired it so much that I asked her how she accomplished this and she told me she had the fabric wrapped around boards. I assumed she meant those you purchase and wrap various cuts of fabric on, so I purchased some. When I told her, I found out what she was talking about were the bolts in the fabric store that they throw away. They give them to you free for the asking and all you do is cut them in half.

I get the cardboard bolts from Hancock and cut them in half then wrap my fabrics around them and they fit nicely on my bookcase. I get them for free. Just ask - they just throw them away.

The shelving in my fabric storage cupboards is painted with latex paint. Is this going to be a problem?
