Is a fat eighth

nine inches long by one-half the width of the fabric (20-22.5 inches)

or

18 inches long by one-fourth the width of the fabric (10-11.25 inches)?

If you could have it cut either way, which would you prefer?

(The square inches are the same either way)

It's the first and most stores don't and won't cut it the other way. Each piece gets a selvage part. Otherwise everyone would want the ones without the selvages so that there would be less waste.

The ones I have are 9x22.

It just depends what you are planning on doing with the fabric on what size cut is better  Does that make sense L :? OL

Mine are 9x22. They are great if you just need a little fabric.

I just ordered some fat eighths from Connecting Threads and they said they measure 11x18.
