Thanks so much for this. I think I'll laminate it and carry it with me all the time. So often I'm out, see a fat quarter I really like and wish I knew what I could do with a few of them, just for fun. Now I have a handy guide. Thanks for thinking of us!

You rarely get 22" in a fat quarter -- in fact I find that after squaring and trimming selvages I am lucky to have 21.5x17.5 left. Normally, if the shop is making the fat quarters, they cut a 1/2 yard and then cut across the fold so you loose 1/8-1/4" before you even get the fat quarter. I usually count on 17x20 when I making my calculations.

I did put in "my" calculations for the yield from a 17 x 20 "FQ"

Doesn't seem like anyone noticed, though!

I did, because I've encountered more "short" cutting than not, so I've learned to underestimate my squares. That way, I'm not caught short of fabric.
