I always considered myself as someone who "trys to make quilts". Well not anymore, I think I can offically call myself a true quilter. What sparked the change? I wore out my first cutting mat! It was getting rather scabby looking. Yesterday I was squaring up a big stack of blocks and I heard a snaping sound. I turned the mat over and discovered I cut all the way through the mat! I now have a mat with a four inch square whole in the midddle of it. The good news is that I can use the section that popped out as a 4 in square ruler. Lost a mat, gained a ruler. I have worn out blades before, but this is a new one.

haa haa, that got a giggle outta me... and I made a mental note, two of my 3 mats are looking a little haggard, so I'll be careful

I just had to replace my first cutting mat also. Although mine didn't have a hole all the way through, just gouges on the surface that made cutting more difficult.

I'm using the old cutting mat to cover the opening in a sewing machine cabinet that has been opened but the sewing machine is still down inside. I have it behind my Singer 201 to give me additional "layout" space for when I quilt...That is, if I can convince Gracie to give up her new bed long enough for me to quilt it.

My mat broke when I was cutting out my moms wedding ring quilt. I didn't know they would do that.

I'm still on my first mat. It is starting to look worn, though!
