compensating presser foot question

Default compensating presser foot question

maybe someone here will know what 'Compensating presser foot' is used for? it came with my new Juki TL2010Q. can it be used for piecing ? does anyone uses it?

its for sewing next to a pc of seam that is thicker on one side than the other... like flat fell seams... if it was flying in the air, there would be no tension and most of the sts would skip...

I did a google search and it confirms what deemail said. It is when you are stitching by two different thicknesses of fabric so the presser foot has a grip on both heights of fabric.
