which foot?

I think it's pretty hard to say whether a generic foot will work as well as one made for the machine. Some do and some don't. If possible, test it out before buying, or buy with the opportunity to return it if it doesn't work well.

I use my regular foot.for.piecing, not a quarter inch foot.
My darning foot (i prefer open toe) is a must.for.free motion quilting.
I just got.a.walking foot but haven't used it yet. On Bernina, it costs as much as a cheap sewing machine! It was a splurge for sure, I had been doing ok (but not great) without it.
I also like my clear applique foot for.satin stitch applique...makes turning corners easy.
I now covet the wheel.foot to do curved piecing and the free motion couching foot.for shear fun. Not sure if I eventually want the 1/4 inch foot, and with or without guide...
(sorry for the random periods between words, my.phone does that.)

The feet I use the most are my 1/4" piecing foot, free motion quilting foot, and walking foot. I do also use my open toe machine applique foot a lot. And another foot I do love is the edgestitch foot. Other than that it will depend on what kind of sewing you do and what feet you might want to play with. There are so many to choose from, each doing a specific task. Some are quite costly though, and I would only buy them if you knew you were going to be using them a lot.
