    Default Too Big?

So I've been working on a CW Album quilt. The top is done, borders attached, I'm very pleased with the way it looks.

Today I started cutting 5" squares for the pieced back and it occurred to me I needed to measure the top so I'd know how many squares to cut. When I measured it, I found out this baby is 114 x 114 -- and that's without adding on the extra inches for the longarm quilting!

Anyone know the largest size a longarm quilter can handle? I know I've never made one this large before.

My frame is 12' wide so I guess it could handle the size you are making.

My largest quilt was 124X124". The quilter managed to quilt it.

I think the average size for a longarm is 12', but some are smaller. (And not all the length is "quiltable".) A 12' frame could handle your quilt. Ask your longarmer if she can handle it and if not ask for a recommendation for someone who can.

Thank you, dunster and Pat M., that's very reassuring. I was having nightmares about having to take the borders off ...

I made one that was 122 x 122. Of course, it cost nearly $350 to quilt it, and that was just an all-over panto....

Different LA machines handle different sizes. Just start contacting Long Arm quilters in your area or on the board.

My quilter said nothing larger than 112" wide. Length does not matter because it is rolled.

You need to ask your LAQ. Tables can be anywhere between 6 feet and 14 feet. I can do a oversize king since my table is 14 feet (14X12=168). Also the neck of their machines. Talk to your LAQ, Good luck.
