I reply in the context of the conversation, but I rarely define myself as in saying, "I am a....". When talking about fabric, for example, I might say, "I make quilts." I am much too complicated and interesting a person to limit who I am that way. Smilesssss........... and hugggggs.

Like this reply. Interesting and valid point of view. I totally agree with you in being much too complicated a person to limit myself with labels minus my answer above your reply. Originally Posted by wildyard

Just Grandma! According to my granddaughters, I am a brownie goddess! Ha, ha! They say nobody makes them as good as Grandma. But seriously, I sew or quilt whatever the kids want or need. Quilts, pillowcases, hemming pants, mending. You name I have done it.

I shock pretty much everyone I meet because of the stigma that you must be old to be a quilter...
I started my 1st quilt in 2008. I turned 23 on September 25th, 2012.
I'm the youngest member of the Valley Oak Quilt Guild.

I would just call myself "Proudly Awesome."

My title is Textile Artisan.
As I deal in all things fabric and am the one ALL my friends come to with old clothes to be re-purposed into whatever I wish...

I am a quilter and yes, I do 'old fashioned' quilting by hand. However I do piece by machine, but the word sewist just sounds weird to me. So I guess if I did other sewing I would just say I sew.

I would love to see some of your mugs. I'll bet they're really pretty. Do you sell them?Originally Posted by Tashana
I have many hobbies - quilting, sewing, pottery, crochet, knitting, stained glass, gardening. I sometimes do them all and sometimes I focus on one of them. For me labels are not important since neither of my hobbies is my profession, not yet anyways. I plan on selling my crafts eventually, and since I will be selling a mix I will probably be called an artist, artisan or crafter by most of the people. Some people call me (behind my back) makes-everything-by-hand-and-refuses-to-buy-mass-produced-stuff woman and although meant as a derogatory I am quite proud of it. Today I am a quilter, but tomorrow I will definitely be a potter because my wheel is calling me and I have an urge to make some nice muggs. My kids were on a breaking spree lately so I am reduced to a hodge podge of mugs that do not match.
