I always ship my quilts, crochet afghans, or needle work in space bags. Keeps the items safe from unknown spills in shipping and gives the person I'm shipping to a "storage unit". I just sent my daughter a 60" cyan blue tree skirt, with hand beaded snowflakes that I FMQ....took over a week of just beading. Wasn't taking the chance of it getting ruined in shipping!!!

Thanks for this good information. I do longarm quilting and mail the quilts when finished to their makers. This will help with the cost of shipping the quilts. Where is the best place to get the space bags? Thanks again for this information. I plan to try it soon.

i use the smaller sized bags when i go on a trip. i put all my clothes that i will wear in one day into the bag and when i need my clothes for the next day out comes the bag. that's how i use my carry on bag.

I got mine at Wal-Mart. It was an off brand...not the Ziploc brand.

Never having used the space bags, I have a question. Does the quilt plump back up when you release it from the bag or does it end up all wrinkly and squishy looking?

Thank you for the detailed discription on how to do this, I have used space bags for many things and never thought of using them for shipping. The part that just made me smile is

" They only get mail delivered 3 days a week there."

now that's is country living at its finest Also your quilt is beautiful.

When I took my DD QS quilt to her for her wedding gift, I placed it in a space bag so that it would not take up so much room - weight yes, but not as much room in my suit case.

They plump up as soon as you open the bag. If it gets wrinkly, you can spritz it lightly with a bottle of warm water and put the spray on mist. most of the time it doesn't. I've used this method a few times and it's great.
