A male friend of mine wants to buy me a New sewing machine and i don't know what kind. I just have 2 regular Singer machines. I want a machine that is computerized that also do embroidery not over $500.00.

Anyone have any good suggestion on what kind?

I would look at Sears Kenmore machines as they tend to offer good value. They are supposed to be re-branded Janomes. You could also shop for Janomes online (some good deals).

Also consider going to a sewing machine dealer to see if they have used machines that do want you want in your price range. Often you can get a much better machine with more features buying used. It's a lot like cars; some people trade in their machine for a newer model regularly.

Stay away from Singer and Bernette in this price category. I also probably would stay away from Elna in this price range.

I would also recommend Sears Kenmore, in that price range. My Kenmore machine was a workhorse, and was still working fine when I gave it to a young lady that was just learning to sew.

I just took my 30 year old Kenmore in for a tuneup. It doesn't have a lot of fancy stitches, but for piecing or quilting with a walking foot, it is just as good (if not better)than a 15 year old Viking. I'd try the Kenmore if I were in your position.

I love my Kenmore. It is the exact same as the Janome for $100 less. It is three years old now, and not even a hiccup.

I sew on a Kenmore. It's an Ergo3 with the embroidery in it. I love it! I also have my backup machine which just happens to be a Kenmore and is probably about 20+ years old.
