For the 7 yr old a quilted play mat with Hot Wheels cars/trucks and for the 2 yr old, a soft toy or soft doll with a doll quilt depending whether boy or girl. Or maybe soft blocks for the 2 yr old or book to teach zippers, buttoning, tying, and velcro or for the older child a bean bag game.

I am looking for some good ideas to make kids gifts for christmas. I have four grandchildren ages 2 thru 7, I have made quilts, duffle bags,& art caddys for them already. I love sewing for them and would like some other ideas what else I can make and for you to share your projects you have made.

I have 5 grand kids under 4 with 1 more on the way. I am making aprons and chef hats. Also I have made a very simple hooded wrap robe that I used a cute flannel and lined with terry cloth. Big hit. I like the pillowcases.

I have made my grandsons a series of pillowcases....turtles and dolphins for a beach trip that we took together, and lots of others. Very simple, one fabric each. I put zippers on the ends to keep the pillows inside (you'd have to know my grandsons to understand this one...) and they LOVE them! I keep about 1/4 yard of each fabric to make them a quilt to take to college in 10-12 years too.

If you make them pillowcases, you could make the pajama pants in coordinating fabric. Also inside the case you could insert a children's book that follows the theme of the fabric. For example, if the book is THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR you could use butterfly fabric for the case and pants. If the book is CURIOUS GEORGE, use sock monkey fabric. Your grand kids are very lucky to have you in their lives.

Quillows. They fold into a pillow when not being used. I've made these for friends, kids and family members to take when they travel, have an overnight stay at a friend's house, need a blanket to sit on, etc. Can use a favorite theme for the pillow cover and make whatever size you desire. Great just to keep in your car - never know when you might need a throw.

Pajama eaters(you can buy a pattern for these, I just made one up).
You can make pajamas out of cute fabrics(my kids love these!!!!)
ties, bow ties, hair clips, skirts, travel quilts(seeing they are still young), crayon rolls, small purses, or maybe a tshirt quilt with their clothes.

I have made rug mugs/snack mats for my grandson (age 7). I make them reversible so he chooses what side he wants to use. (They are holiday themed.) He sometimes even takes them to school for his lunch. You could even include some kind of sippy cup for the littler ones. I make them about 8 1/2" x 11" so they are easy to mail in a manila envelope. I suggest cotton batting. It absorbs any spills better. They are machine washable/dryable so mom likes them, too.

I have four nephews ages 3-7. Last Christmas I purchased travel pillows and bought fabrics in their favorite thing (pirates, cars, trains, etc.). I made pillow cases and monogrammed their names on them. Now when they are at home or travelling in the car, they love to bring their pillows with them.

One year for my nieces boys, I make a floor quilt that the print had a little town on it with streets. Bought some vehicles the right size to be on the roads on the quilt.
What was aggravating is that she never thanked me. So far, the only kids beside my own to thank me has been my youngest son's friends when I made them pillowcases. Found some dragon fabric on sale and made a bunch. His friends got jealous so I had to make a lot of them. They all thanked me. These guys were late teens, early 20s!
