OK my fellow quilters. . . here is the mission:

I want to make a quilt just for me. And - maybe even finish it. I need white fabric as a back ground and a lot of it. 4-5 yards to be safe. I always look at Walmart first and have to admit I can't normally handle the quilt store prices.

Is it worth it to search out onlines stores? I worry that I will spend so much time looking that I will get discurraged. I know many of you buy online - but I myself never had.

Any suggestions for "good" quality, low price, cheap shipping? I have to admit - Joanne's is the highest quality I normally go. And I know that you get what you pay for - but I am still only will to do 5-6 dollars per yard. Is it worth my time to research?

This is what I want to do. And I have a week of vacation coming up. I am gong to do scrappy pink and use what I had in my pink ribbon quilt I did a bit ago for my MIL

Those are the top two that come to mind for "cheap, good quality"

You won't go wrong with either of these.

But if you're looking for a solid white, the Kona at Joann's (with a coupon) might be the least expensive, since that's a major consideration. That way you can save the $$$ for the pinks/purples.

As for those colors, are you only looking for one fabric for each value, or are you considering multiple fabrics for each value group? So it would be a very controlled scrappy look (like you used in the Ribbon quilt).

I personally would buy Kona cotton or cotton sateen and use a coupon on it so that it comes out cheaper per yard. I use the sateen a lot in hand applique and love the quality of it and can only find it at Joann's. And I am a very picky person and have spent #10-$12 per yard for good quality fabric and these meet my expectations.

My opinion, Walmart has pretty WOW fabric (White on White) and COC (Cream on Cream) which I personally buy there by the dozens (on the background fabrics) but if you cannot find these background fabrics, then Joann's will have it (second option for me if I cannot find a nice background fabric to work with).

Right now 5bucksayard is having a tremendous sale; here's the link for the homepage and if you sign up for their email alerts, the site offers incentives/promotional sales/clearance/etc...

I just bought some white with little white polka dot today for half off! That made it $4.19 a yard.

White as the background then all the same pinks from the pink ribbon. Yes - I am always drawn to the "controlled scrappy". I think it just makes me feel better! You should see my desk at work . .everything in it's place. This is the controlled side of me. But my closets at home. . that is the scrappy!!!

I didn't spend too much time on the picture I made becuase with Quilt Deisgn Wizard I don't have as many options as I would like. And it is a bit of a bear to work with in terms of changing my mind with layout. I just wanted to see how those 2 blocks would turn out. And I love it!

I keep looking at the pink ribbon quilt and I am so drawn to the pink/white contrast :)
