Wow what memories! Our JC Pennys had a mezzanine too. Must have been a trademark. And someone mentioned a kresgees. I can remember being in awe at the kresgees store. Back then it was the equivelant of a modern day Hobby Lobby. And the woolworths. Yes lots of memories. I remember making a prom dress out of yellow dotted swiss in high school home ec class. lol

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I remember buying fabric on what is now called 'fabric row' in Philadelphia, PA for clothing. It is now only a shadow of its former self. If I wanted inexpensive but serviceable calicos, I'd go to Woolworths or Kresge. I still have some of that calico somewhere in my boxes.

Thanks for bringing back a memory! Those meters were fascinating to me. I remember going to a store called Melody Mills with my mother on the rare occasion she purchased new fabric. It was wonderful.

I remember going into the garment district in Boston Mass in High School to buy fabric and they had a lot of fabric stores (in the 70's). I took my daughter in a few years ago and there was 1 store left and didnt have the quality of fabric we used to get. Also used to get fabric at a local downtown store and at a mill store and Woolworth's and Sears.

The fabric measuring meter that I used to use in a warehouse in the 70s was attached to a roller and as I wound the fabric onto the roller, the measuring was done. So this one that you have seems a very old model indeed. It'svery interesting to see it.
