I enrolled my 10 year old granddaughter in the B Sew Inn's summer sewing camp for kids. She is absolutely loving it! She made me a IPad cover & says it looks like it was bought in a store! I can't wait to see it!

When my DD was a teenager, she took a sewing class at Hancock's, JoAnn's, somewhere. It was the best $25. I ever spent. She's made clothes for herself & her kids, mended, patched, lenghthened, shortened for her family, dad, me, sister for years. She's been quilting for a long time now & started me quilting and is still my mentor/helper. I couldn't do needlepoint, cross stitch, stained glass anymore because of the RA in my hands & I was having withdrawals without something to work on. Now I'm addicted to quilting.

It is so important that their first sewing experience is a positive one. I am glad she is enjoying herself nd that she has been successful with her first project. She will be on her way to a lifetime love of sewing.

Over the years I have taught nieces and nephews to use my sewing machine. Currently one of the nephews and his friend like to come over and sew pillows by hand. Such a joy to watch these 11 and 12 year old boys learn to sew and create stuff.

It is so fun to sew with grandkids. How sweet that she is excited to make and give you something that she is proud of making herself. Do you have a machine for her to sew on at your home... or maybe you don't live in the same areas? I bring one of my sewing machine with me when we travel to visit our grandchildren. They love sewing on them. Have fun. A new generation of quilting has been borne.

I am way too jealous.. I have offered to teach any of the relatives, and friends how to so, and am willing to set people up with a machine, and supplies, and I can't find a soul.. The one I thought that has talent, is so busy during the school year, she doesn't have time to come up for air.. and during the summer she is away at sleep away camp.. I bought her sewing machine, and her mom uses it, but shows no interest in quilting..

The schools are not teaching much in sewing any more so think a sewing class is an excellent investment. I think 10 is a good age too. Hope I can get my GD in one when she is old enough.

The camp was $195, but it included the lowest model machine they offer. Her parents paid for the class, I upgraded her machine 2 levels. Her new machine has a one-step buttonhole feature. It has several built in stitches. She loves it! It is the Babylock "Molly". Comes with it's own name!
