This is a very old pattern, the diamonds are most always done in green and referred to as the "path through the garden."

I am working on one with the diamonds in it right now. I made my own pattern & I just used the measurement from the hexi side for the diamonds & the triangles. I just use freezer paper & it's easy to work with.
