I need some input/ advise, my sweetie went to JoAnn's and bought me a chest of Gutermann Thread of 100 colors for Christmas. I have never had anything like this and I am not sure if I can use them. Would you use them to quilt? They are such small spools, I hate not to find a use for them. He has said a few times, I can take it back and get anything else. I have never returned anything and I am not sure I want to. But I also do not want to not use them. Help.. I am sure someone can.
    Thank you

I love Gutermann thread. It is a high quality thread, but all polyester. You certainly can use it for quilting, unless you are a purist and only use cotton. My problem with those chests is that I never buy just one spool of any color. Since I have sergers I usually buy at least 3 at a time, sometimes 4. I do a fair amount of regular sewing and mending for other people so lots of colors is important to me. For quilting I usually stick to a neutral color. So you can send the thread case to me

i love my guterman thread chest! i always have just the right color of thread i need for applique, and it works well for embroidery too. top stitching? again the right color. there may not be enough to quilt a quilt but there is plenty to sew with.... wouldn't try to machine quilt with them anyway...i have terrible luck trying to quilt with cotton threads, they break every couple inches...but for piecing/applique/embroidery...great thread!i love having a selection of colors! what a great gift!!!

I love Gutterman thread and that is all that I use in my quilting. I love their color selection, etc. and know you will enjoy it once you start to use it.

I wouldn't return it. I like having lots of thread colors to chose from. I'd try to get some larger or additional spools of the colors you use most and save the other smaller spools for smaller projects like applique or top-stitching. What a great gift-enjoy.

Gutermann thread comes in 100% cotton and polyester. It is a great thread. Depending on whether you applique or not it would be a nice addition for you for those applications. The small spools would not work in quilting an entire quilt but would have many advantages in doing other embellishments on your quilt.

Love those threads. Their colors are beautiful. However my machine doesn't like poly on top and something else in the bobbin. Play with your machine on scraps to determine if that is true of yours. Have fun.

I wait until Gutermann thread is on sale and then buy many colors. It is the only thread I like to use in my Sapphire Viking.
