Wow, just looked Bloc Loc up and the price is way to expensive. I will stay with Quilt In A Day rulers. Easier to use also.

Bias edged HST's will only work if the fabric is quite substantial and/or well starched.

I'm wondering is these HST's will make pinwheels. Some I have tried make half a pinwheel and the other half doesn't match. You need to make two to get pinwheels, and they go opposite directions. I could try this myself, but does anyone know? (And save me some time.)

I have resorted to buying the half square triangle paper, copying them onto copy paper (making sure the copier copies exactly the same size). I buy them on the roll - I think the brand is "triangles on a roll. There are also sheets that you can buy. They come in different sizes too.

Most ruler manufacturers have tutorials on line which show how to use your ruler. If you are looking to "translate" a different approach to making your HST, my best advice is to cut a couple of squares, make them and measure your results. Once you get a prototype that fits the pattern, WRITE down the size or process used. These beta blocks can always become the center of a potholder.

Haven't got it yet but I'll let you know.

I don't have the software but I have the template file and I agree, this is the best way to get accurate HSTs. I don't always use it because I don't have the right paper....and hate tearing off ordinary printer paper. But it really works!

If I'm cutting HST's, I ALWAYS go up to a full measurement - 2 7/8th I would cut at 3", 4 7/8" I would cut at 4", etc., etc. Then I draw a diagonal line across the lightest color square and sew 1/4 " on either side. I would then press to the dark side and recut to the correct final measurement. It's an extra step, but I'm much happier with my blocks, as after all these years I have not completely mastered the scant 1/4 ", so I'd rather cut twice and get the right size.

Yes, but this way as well as jenny Dian's way results in bias edges on the " to be" sewn edges....if I am doing a lot of the I use " triangles on a roll", if just a few I use that right anle ruler mentioned in a previous post...if just one or two. I cut the squares the 1" more instead of 7/8".... I have always really hated crazy fractions!

Here is another link for HST. She also is doing a Layer Cake Sampler using this method.
