I am a hand quilter and definitely hand quilt. I would make a temporary frame of 4 pieces of slat or lath, two long ones, length of the quilt and 2 shorter ones for sides. fasten frame together with screws at the corners. One long side roll the quilt on and stretch across the frame to the other. I use clamps from Harbor Freight to clamp to the frame. Quilt that side as far as is comfortable to reach.Unscrew that side and roll the quilted part on it. Releasing the other side to move more quilt over to be quilted. Support the frame across 2 chair backs, table top and chair back or 2 "saw horses" from Harbor Freight, $10 each. I use this when I do philanthropy quilts with Scout troops, senior citizen groups who want to tie whole cloth quilts for needy. This will work for quilting if you don't want to invest in a frame. To get it out of the way can be put against the wall behind the couch, the bed, dresser, etc. without taking the quilt off the frame.
