Hand Piecing Flannel
Hi everyone! I've had a flannel quilt, from a kit, all cut out for almost a year now. I was thinking about using it for a hand piecing project during my move when I'll be without my machine. What do you think? Is flannel okay for hand piecing? Are there special tips & techniques I should know? I've never hand pieced anything, except paper piecing hexagons.

It's been my experience that flannel is pretty prone to raveling. I don't know if I would try to hand piece it unless you are extremely gentle as you handle it. Even when I machine piece flannel I use 3/8" to 1/2" seam allowance for insurance.

I did a rag quilt with heart shape in center from flannel, it was handpieced; raveling wasn't an issue since it needs to ravel on the rag quilt. I had 2 layers of flannel and it's much harder on your fingers, and slower since it's thicker. But turned out very well.
