    .....quilt with single or double thread? I've looked at some Amish quilts and I can't tell if they use a single thread or a double thread.

    Yep, single Hand quilting thread. Check to see, there is machine quilting thread too. You can use it, just harder to use.

    I want to say single. I used hand quilting thread for Hancock fabric or Wal-Mart, which is durable.

    Single thread. Hand quilting thread is heavier weight. Usually 40 (as opposed to standard piecing thread which is usually 50 or 60) but I have a handquilting thread that is 35. This may be why you think some of these Amish quilts may be double thread but traditional is a single strand.
