Met a new friend last week and she showed me her quilts that were all hand quilted..incluing the ones that her mother had done years ago. In my excitement and awe I forgot to ask her if she uses a hoop or not. She is out of town looking after grandkids so I can't contact her about her method.

What do I do ? I've got a top finished and ready to sandwich with backing and batting......can't afford to send to LAQ.....your help would be appreciated! Thanks, Sandy

I've done both. I have a tendency to prefer using a hoop if for no other reason it's easier to find where I left off! Otherwise I really see no difference in the finished product. Preference, really.

You can do it either way what ever you are comfortable with.

I prefer no hoop, but if you do use a hoop don't make it so tight. ask them about the tension in a hoop.

I agree here. I do all my own hand quilting.

You folks are awesome ! NEVER have I ever felt that anyone has "talked down" to me as if to say, "that is a silly question!". I have the confidence to ask the most basic, silliest, questions because I'm new to this and have a lot of questions. When I've asked at the LQS the reply is not as informative and then they want to sell you something to help issue ! Thanks again ! MAYBE one day I'll feel confident in answering others' questions !

We were all where you are at some point. We needed to ask questions to learn. We have a real fellowship with each other. This is the place "to dance Naked" and ask all the questions you want.

I am feeling a little friskie as we are having a cold front here. It is only 102* today.
