Default Need help to finish bargello

I'm going to try again to ask a question & try to get a pix with it. I've just finished a Bargello top called "Melinda's Heart" by Heidi Farmer. I was chatting with a member of the QB about it but lost touch with her in the transition of the board.

I'd like to ask for advice/opinions on how this should be finish quilted. I'm trying to figure out how to do the backing since I've never made a quilt this lg. before. I'd like to incorporate scraps of the front colors somehow but am lost on that for now.

It consists of 53 rows & was quite a challenge. When I began, I figured I'd give the first few strips a go then maybe just toss it. Well, I became so obsessed with it I couldn't stay away from it.
Should it go to a longarmer or how should a Bargello be finished?
Now for the hard part of trying to insert a pix of it.

Ok, I give up. Said upload failed sev. times. I had printed of the recent instructions given but I don't see anything shown. I sure wanted to share & brag about this beaut. top.

I'll bet your top is beautiful as it sounds like you put your heart and sole into piecing it. I can't help you as I haven't made a Bargello top yet. I think they are beautiful but, I'm just not up to the challenge yet. I look forward to seeing the finished quilt in a future post.

I'm not going to be much help with the back of the quilt, it sure is pretty!!

As for quilting ... I'm seeing bold feathers in those lovely light colored areas forming the top of the "heart", then perhaps smaller feathers in the other vertical areas.

Go to the gallery here on QB ... one of the pic's is a Bargello that Charisma quilted that has some very nice feathering on it.

Wow, that is gorgeous. You have done an excellent job. Not any help on the quilting but again it is gorgeous.

Very pretty bargello! If you do send it to a longarmer, I'd ask for feathers too...it's the perfect style for feathers. If you'd rather do it yourself at home, I'd stitch on the diagonal thru the blocks following the colors on the idea of what Eddie did in his bargello. His was a different pattern, but if you follow the colors with the stitching like he did, that's what I mean. Here is a link to his.

For the back, you've got a world of options! If you want to add some scraps from the front, you can add strips or blocks, chunks of leftover fabrics, etc. I try to coordinate colors to the front and to the binding I've selected, but the fabrics aren't necessarily the same as on the front. Usually, but not always. I posted this a while back to give and get inspiration for pieced backs. I almost always do something like this because I rarely buy enough yardage to do the whole back one color.
