Have you ever seen a bobbin do this?

Yes, on my previous mahine. I agree that it had something to do with not winding the bobbin properly. I have purchased the bobbin winder machine and wound just a couple but it did not do a good job like my machine and I had trouble with skipping stiches. It may be just the way I use it but I will be listing it on Ebay to solve the problem.

I've had that happen before. Something obviously inside did do the cutting. It's definitely cut. I think I realized that I had the bobbin backwards or that it was improperly wound, I can't remember which.(Oh, or wound too full - that might have been it. I no longer wind them until they stop. (I also use brothers).

Yep, I have a Brother 6000. Very fussy when the bobbin case has some dirt/lint in it. The auto cutter will stick out and that can be the result. Clean it often and that prevents the bobbin mess.

Yes - it happened to me. I took my machine to a little quilt shop down the road from me and was told that my bobbin was the wrong size. I needed a "mushroom top" bobbin. Haven't had any trouble since. It was weird.
