Have you ever tried this?

Hmm - I haven't bought felt by the yard except for a Christmas tree skirt - will have to try it. I have used the craft felt squares to test-sew embroidery designs and have found that as of late it seems to stretch all over the place and come back to shape with a little steam. Will have to try some yardage and see.
Your idea sounds great to me as a filler - will try it.

Felt makes great batting for things that need something but nothing too heavy or stiff.. Be very careful using felt in pot holders though.. Most felt available today is polyester..(which means it won't shrink). I have never heard of Wal-Mart or JoAnn's or any of those "everyone has one" stores carrying Cotton Felt. In fact I've been around sewing and fabric all my life and have not ran into cotton felt. I'm wondering if the bolt could have been mismarked?? I'd bet it isn't really cotton.

yes you are right I made a lot of table toppers for Christmas this year and used them and love it. They wash up well and wear well. I even use them to pratice the FMQ I need to learn for the Quilts I am making. So as far as I am concerned It a win win situation....
