Hawaiian quilting
How many of you do Hawaiian quilting? I fell in love with it after a visit to Hawaii many years ago and am now working on my 5th quilt. Four are wall quilts and the fifth is a queen size. I love the cutting technique, the soothing rhythm of the needle turn applique, and the drama of one dark fabric against one light. It seems to me to be the easiest of applique techniques, since you cut out the entire top all in one piece.

I've never tried Hawaiian quilting but think it is beautiful. Maybe I should try a little small table runner or mug rug to begin with & see if I like it. Can't wait to see pictures of what you have done so far.

I would love to see photos of your quilts as well.
I did a variation on Hawaiian quilt/album quilt years ago. But before I quilted it, I folded it away and the fabric discolored along the fold lines. I’m still holding on to but not sure I will ever finish it.

I did my first Hawaiian block in 2012 taking an online class by Nancy Chong and I loved it. I even designed my own 42x42 wall hanging and am currently working on a large king size quilt. I also am lucky enough to live in Snohomish, WA where Nancy Chong now teaches and holds classes/workshops montly. I attend her Help with Hand Applique class monthly and most of the time it is just the 2 of us quilting and visiting and very relaxing with a friend. I do regular piecing, quilt my own quilts with FMQ, do ruler work quilts but I keep my Hawaiian quilt projects next to my chair when I watch TV. True Hawaiian quilting is needleturn applique and hand quilted using echo quilting but many use machine applique and quilt by machine. You will find that you either love it or hate it. 1st pic is Ulu block first Hawaiian block, 2nd pic my design called Whale Tails, 3rd my bed quilt blocks and last is PRQC pattern Orchid Oasis using Kaffe fabric.

Three Dog Night, your work is indeed beautiful! I always love to see the Ulu quilts, as that's my favorite pattern. I'm currently working on my second one. I would love to post a picture of my queen size quilt when I finish it, if I can ever figure out how to upload a picture.
