I would use them for embellishments but that would be it. I have a bag full of yo yos but use them for embellishments.

So adorable! I've done flower & circle yo-yo's. Those yo-yo makers are worth every penny. The JAF by me has the entire collection. Make sure to use a good quality thread with them. I can't tell you how many times I snapped the thread trying to gather the fabric. For some strange reason, I had far better luck with Gutermann 100% cotton than with their 100% poly thread or with C&C cotton (Aurifil 50/2 cotton also works well). I tried multiple colors, all new, of the Gutermann poly and kept having the same issue. I sew home dec with it all the time & have never had any other issues with it -- just with the yo-yo's.

thank you all. so the heart yo yo is just made of a larger heart.
I had a yo yo clown when i was younger.
sick story, i made yo yo's out of 1" circles before sewing them into yo yo's and made a clown. I was about 11 or so and had tiny fingers then. sick to try it now. thank you everyone. I'm old fashioned and cut my template out of old butter carton tops and cardboard. My grandma made me a clown in 1968 when she had open heart surgery and was in the hospital for 2 months. Now they send you home with the incision still bleeding!
I'LL TRY SOME OUT OF HEART SHAPES, AND GREAT IDEA FOR LEAVES on the yo yo flowers.

Thank you all.

For ome people new to these, old fashioned term for them were Suffolk Puffs.

My question is this...is it just a big heart you cut out and then gather? If you have any information about them, can you please comment. Thank you.
This tutorial does not use the yo yo maker. Hope it helps. They are very cute.

Really pretty, thimblebug. Can I ask how you made the tiny flowers on the branch?

Lyn, I have the larger one and had to make 76 of them recently for these trees I made. Yes you could just cut a heart and gather, however, the top or dip of the heart may not come out just right. I think the yo yo maker comes in small and large because I remember ordering online.
