How do you decide what type of quilting stitch to use on the finished quilt?

Do you mean the pattern that you want to quilt on the pieced top?

I keep scraps of fabric and batting and then 'play' with different ideas. I also love the chalk-pounce and mylar templates for designs. I usually choose something that will go well with my quilt.

I read somewhere to use a curvy design to soften up a geometric quilt. I never really understood what they meant. Choosing the quilting design is my biggest challenge. It really makes the quilt. I love to hand quilt, so I can pay more attention to detail. It takes me several months to get one done, almost as long as it takes me to decide what to quilt on it.
