Cool Retayne vs Synthrapol.

Ok, speak slowly and maybe this will soak into my brain this time. When do you use Synthrapol and when do you use Retayne. I'm still confused.

Is there a good place to purchase them that sells other notions? I hate paying shipping for 1 thing. I'll check LQS but I don't remember seeing it. Of course, I wasn't looking for it either.

Retayne to retain the color. Synthropol to float away excess dye.

I guess it's like spring ahead; fall back. Retayne before; Synthrapol after.

Exactly... Use Retayne before you cut , it will set the unset dyes. Synthropol is used once a project has been completed , and you can not set the dyes, as ..if bleeding occurs Retayne will set the bleed. Sythropol will keep the suspended dye excess from "attaching" to the other fabrics.
Key to the use of both is the water temperature both require 140 degree water to be effective.

A good way to remember is, R comes before S in the alphabet... Retayne before, Synthropol after.

JoAnn's actually has both of them in the small bottles online. You can usually get free shipping with a coupon and a minimum $ order. Since they're both on sale right now the small bottles might be cost effective.

Synthropol - salvage a mess

I've never used either - but my understanding is that both of these products were originally created for people that dyed their own fabrics.

never thought of synthropol that way, I use it as a safety measure first time quilt is washed.
I've used fabric reactive dyes for years and can vouch for this product.
