I have used Yenmet metallic thread successfully when FMQing a Christmas table runner. I used 2 layers of cotton with Warm & Natural, size 14 needle, Yenmet on top, and Superior SuperBob prewound bobbin. Not a single break. I did loosen the top tension a little to get a balanced stitch.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions!! I'm going to the store to get better needles, sewers aid andI'll reduce my tension. The cup idea sounds good also - as I do notice the thread seems to jump off the spool. I'm sure by doing these suggestions I'll get through this project without throwing it out the window!!
