    I use flannel in my wall hangings with great success.

    I use batting most of the time. If it is a smaller one I use something like batting. flannel or silver cleaning material I found at Joanns. This doesn't make it so thick and holds the stitches.

    I used a fairly stiff interfacing on mine to give it the stability without bulk.

    I use batting for my wall hangings. Quite often, I'll piece batting scraps together for wall hangings as they don't go thru the wear and tear of a quilt intended for use. A great way to get the most out of batting!
