Help on paper piecing!
#1
Hi everyone :)
I'm working on the hunter's star block and I was wondering if there was a way to allign up the fabric for the "star" corners. I've had to rip them out everytime I sew. I'm not sure if i'm missing some sort of technique or i it's something you learn with practice.
Thanks for any help!

It's the part where the darker fabrics are (#2 and #3). I'm thinking after I do it for awhile, I'll be able to line them up better. When you lay your fabric 2 on top of 1 and sew that line and you flip it over, it's angled.

Don't be so precise about cutting an exact size triangle. I whack off a way large enough piece and trim when it is all done. Triangles are tricky they tend to end up shorter than you think it will be - when you flip. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. I wish I could use larger pieces but I'm working with scraps. (which I'm very greatful to have  ) In the first picture the block is fine, I just hadn't trimmed it up. (I will go ahead and trim them up as I go). I think I just need to sit down and plow ahead with it. I'm sure practice will make perfect. I have all evening to work on them so I expect myself to be an expert by tomorrow.

You might also try putting a lamp where you can actually see the shadows of your #2, #3, etc. fabrics to make sure they are situated exactly right before you sew and flip. It does make it tough when you can't have a piece large enough to not worry about it. I agree with you...you will be an expert by tomorrow

Yeah! I got it all figured out! instead of laying my fabrics for #2 and 3 horizontal, I put them vertical. I've been doing them assembly line style! and I did use the lamp. haha. my sewing area is in a "L" shape. I put a lamp on the floor and used one of my rulers as my "glass".
Yeah!
Yeah!
