I am hoping you lovely ladies can help me decide on what type of quilt to make my three year old Grandaughter. My Grandaughter whose name is Sydney, was born and lives in Alaska with her mum and dad. I want to make her a quilt but don't know whether to do a 'girlie quilt', an aussie theme quilt, or something more Alaskan.

My daughter can't decide so maybe someone could help me.

I would make her an Aussie quilt since it is from you and perhaps she would love to know things of you (smile) - just my humble opinion.

With that name and a grandmum that lives in Australia make her one of your beautiful country, kangaroos, the ocean, mts,so many things to choose from. It is part of her heritage!

Since she is 3 I think "girly", The next one you make for her could be Australian, so she will have a glimpse of where you are.

    Girly.
I feel bad that you're so far away from her but thank goodness there's technology (cameras on pcs) so you can still see and talk to her.

For a three year old I'd do a girlie quilt you could still put some koala bears on it so she's got something from Australia in her quilt, little girls would them - heck I'm an adult and love them!

At three years of age, I would think girlie colors and some "cute", koalas, kangaroos, a flower. The colors will appeal to her, and mom can tell "back home" stories about the critters.

I totally agree with that. You can do a modified girly-Aussie or Aussie-girly but it would be sooooo special to get that from her gran.

How about a girlie Aussie quilt? I wonder if you can find things A-Z that are all Australian? That would be fun??? I am sure she will love it whatever you decide.

How about a combination of a girlish colors with downunder theme units (animals, natural wonders, etc.)?

How about a girly, 2 sided quilt? One one side Australian animals on a big map that shows where you live, and on the other side a big map of Alaska with some animals on it from there and of course where she lives. You could say on your side From Grandma's house to (other side)[granddaughter's name]house with love.
