Help with size
I am making a quilt for my grandson. In the center will be a 20" x 30" sailboat block surrounded by 10" blocks that have whales. What dimensions should the boat be? It will just be sitting in the block - no water underneath it or anything like that. Thanks!!!

Question are you piecing the boat or appliqué ? I would think you would just determine how you want the center the boat in that area...or not center. Not much help Huh. I actually made a quilt with a sail boat I the center. I will see if I still have a photo of it.

I picked the best sailboat that EQ had and picked a fish that looked a little bit like a whale. The center is the 20x30 inch block and the whale blocks are all 10" finished. Perhaps this can give you a perspective.

That is pretty much what I want it too look like. So about how tall is that boat from top to bottom and how wide at its biggest spot?
I am horrible with estimating sizes - not a good quality in a quilter.
Thanks for your help!!

Well, if your side blocks are 10", just draw those lines across the center panel and make your boat from those dimensions......all this on paper for pattern, of course, then work onto center panel.....that's how I would do it....
