This occasional happens to me with my Bernina 1530 but I have usually had to refill the bobbin or replace the top thread. Yes, just start over and rethread your machine. If you check everything, then maybe something has happened to your bobbin and it needs to be taken in for servicing.

I just had something similiar happern to me but the bottom thread was not quite that bad. After changing thread, needles, rethreading many times I took it in to a great repair shop. (in a panic of course). the problem- the upper tension knop was completely loose and there was no upper tension so thread was way to loose on the bottom. the repair lady said this will happen due to putting the presser foot up and down many many times. I had never hear of this but after tking the knob off and tightening the upper tension screw the machine works great. The lady was really nice- only charged me $32 and worked on machine for 1 hour while I waited. she also showed me some other tricks on my machine. My machine is a Brothers 1500s.

Perhaps you DH could check this out for you or maybe yourself if.

The other thing that will cause this is not putting your presser foot down. Ask me how I know this...
Yes yes yes, I forgot that presser foot one. I have experienced this myself!
peace

I would clean your machine, this happens once in a while to me even though I clean it constantly.

When this happens, I do what everyone has suggested. It seems to help.

doesn't hurt to have a can of compressed air along with re-threading and bobbin change. Use the compressed air to clean out any dust, etc.

Check to see that your needle is properly seated in the machine, or put in a new one. Completely unthread the machine, including bobbin, and then rethread, making sure the thread is in the upper tension disks and the bobbin is in the machine, unwinding in the proper direction. Usually that will take care of it.
