As ya'll know I am new to quilting and still just doing baby quilts..The last 3 I made was crib size...I want to do a quilt that is not as big for a quick gift? What size is good? The ones has alway been longer then they are wide but can they be square? If so what size should I do..I am working on one today and want to finish it..I would search it but my laptop is in shop and I am on my old computer and it freezes real bad and won't let me go to some places??? Thanks!

I think any size can work, even something small can be used to lay a baby on in a playpen or on a floor or you could do something nursery themed as a wall hanging

Wall hangings can be any size. Another thing for a quick gift might be placemats or potholders.

I would go with a 45 X 45. Square is easy and that is big enough to lay on the floor or cover a stroller. Have fun!

I prefer a square quilt for a baby. It's a lot less bulk for cuddling and fits nicely in a travel bag. The 45 X 60" is called crib size but, let's face it, who makes a baby's bed?! Maybe at Grandma's house but not at home where the crib is used several times a day. A small rectangle works nicely for stroller or car seat use, too. But my usual choice is a square, utilizing the wof of the back as my destination measurement for the top.

I love that size. It has so many uses. I make my wall hangings 36x36.
